Laser installation methods and precautions

The laser installation method outlined in this chapter is applicable to the Beiyang UAM-05LP-T301 positioning laser, Peplus Fu R2000 Lidar, SICK LMS series Lidar, and SICK nanoScan3 Lidar.

1. Install the posture

The laser must be installed horizontally and cannot produce more than a 1° pitch and tilt.

2. Install the height

As the measuring laser's scanning surface is a two-dimensional plane, the installation height of the positioning laser must avoid the dynamic area in the environment and stably perceive static information. Thus, the installation height of the positioning laser depends on the usage scenario. In a general factory scenario, a higher installation height is preferable as it can avoid interference from dynamic cargo and walking people in the environment.

In certain computer room scenarios, the cabinet may be hollowed out and lack reference material at the appropriate height. This can result in unstable static information of the environment perceived by the laser. Therefore, it is recommended to select the height defined by the red box in the figure as the installation height for the laser.

3. Precautions

  1. The system utilizing two-dimensional measuring lasers can only operate on a two-dimensional plane and does not support sloped or uneven ground.
  2. During laser installation, attention must be paid to the tilt angle of the laser installation. Additionally, the laser cannot sweep to the ground within the measuring distance of the laser.
  3. The laser perception principle determines that the measurement distance varies for different materials and object reflectance. Generally, black objects have a shorter measurement distance. If there are many black objects in the environment, the shortest distance measured by the laser should be used.
  4. In mechanical structure design, it is recommended to leave the maximum angle range of the laser perception range to avoid artificially reducing the laser perception angle due to the shell or other reasons.
